Lantern Isles / Word finder
Word finder: make words from letters
Type the letters you have and see every word they make, longest first. Use ? for a blank tile, or switch to Pattern to fill a gap like c?t. The list holds 58,711 English words from the dictionary of our word game Lantern Isles: Word Puzzle, without names or swear words.
Each letter counts as many times as you type it. ? stands for any letter.
How to use the word finder
- From letters: type up to 15 letters. You get every word that uses only those letters, the longest and the most common words first.
- Blank tiles: type ? for each blank. It can stand for any letter.
- Pattern: for crosswords and Wordle-style games, type the word with ? for each missing letter: c?t finds cut, cat and cot.
- Private: the search runs on your device, so the letters you type are never sent anywhere.
Where the words come from
This is the word list of our game. We started from the English spelling dictionaries that LibreOffice and Firefox use (Hunspell), kept the words people really use (word frequencies from wordfreq), checked every word against Wiktionary and removed names, abbreviations and swear words. It is not an official Scrabble list: a few Scrabble words are missing here, and some words here are not allowed in Scrabble.
Play with these words
In Lantern Isles: Word Puzzle you swipe letters on a wheel to fill a crossword and wake 15 sleeping islands with Lumi the firefly. It has 20 languages, no timer and no lives, and tapping a found word shows what it means.

Once the page and the word list have loaded, every search runs without a connection.
