Lantern Isles Bonus Words, Legendary Words, Dictionary and Medals

Which words Lantern Isles: Word Puzzle accepts, what bonus words pay, the four word rarities, how to see what a word means, how My Dictionary and the Collection work, and all 16 medal sets with their rewards.

Not every word you find in Lantern Isles: Word Puzzle has to be in the grid. Every real word counts for something, and the rarest ones are worth hunting. This guide explains bonus words, rarity, meanings, your own dictionary and the medals.

We make Lantern Isles, so every number in this guide comes from the game's code.

Which words count

A word needs at least three letters and has to be in the game's word list for the language you play in. The lists are big: English accepts 58,706 words and German 56,611, while Polish accepts 243,033, because a language with many word endings has many more forms. The grids use a smaller set of common words, and the lists contain no rude words at all.

Bonus words

A real word that is not in the grid is a bonus word. Each new one:

  • fills the ring around the star button next to the wheel, and 50 bonus words pay 20 coins,
  • adds 2 lanterns to the Lantern Pass,
  • adds 1 point in the weekly league and 1 to your club's chest,
  • goes into My Dictionary.

A bonus word you have already found in the same level only makes the star button shake. Bonus words do not touch your combo: they neither break it nor add to it, so you can try words freely.

Rare, epic and legendary words

Every word has a rarity, worked out from how often it is used in its language. When you find a rare, epic or legendary bonus word, the game tells you.

RarityHow often the word is used
Common10 or more times in a million words
Rare1 to 10 times in a million words
Epic1 to 10 times in 10 million words
LegendaryLess than once in 10 million words

The grids use common words, so most rare finds are bonus words. Look for longer words built from the wheel's letters and for unusual forms of words you know. Legendary words have a medal set of their own.

What does a word mean?

Tap any word you have found in the grid and a small card shows a short meaning, written for the game in each of its 20 languages. In learning mode, the words you find also appear with their translation into your own language; our learn a language guide explains how.

My Dictionary

My Dictionary, the Aa button on the home screen, keeps every word you have found in a language, grid words and bonus words, newest first. The words are coloured by rarity, you can filter them by rarity, and the top shows how many words you have, your longest and your rarest. Each language has its own dictionary, and the cloud save keeps it too.

The Collection

The Collection, the star button on the home screen, has four tabs: Medals, Trophies (the monthly trophies of the Daily Challenge), Wallpapers (the night picture of every island you restore, to save or share) and Stats (your lifetime numbers).

There are 16 medal sets with 67 medals in all, and each medal pays coins when you claim it:
