Block Brain: Brain Express Mode Guide and Tips
Brain Express puts your block puzzle on rails. Learn how wagon targets, cargo, towns, boosters and continues work, and how to deliver more wagons per run.
Brain Express is the block puzzle mode on rails. Instead of one board for the whole game, you fill a train of wagons, and every wagon you push on takes you further down the line. Tap EXPRESS on the home screen to climb aboard. Here is how the mode works and how to deliver more wagons.
How Brain Express works
Each wagon is its own board, 8 blocks wide and 7 blocks tall. It rolls in already carrying cargo: colored blocks piled up from the floor, never forming a full line. You play it just like Classic: drag your three pieces onto the board and clear full rows and columns.
The push meter under your score shows how far you are, for example 60 / 100. Every point you score on the current wagon counts: placing blocks, clearing lines, combos and bonuses. Reach the target and ALL ABOARD! appears: the wagon leaves, and the next one rolls in with more cargo and a higher target.
There is no clock in Brain Express, so take your time with every move. The run ends when none of your pieces fits on the wagon. The result card then shows END OF THE LINE, or NEW RECORD! when you beat your best score.
Wagon targets and cargo
Every wagon asks for more points than the last one and brings more cargo:
- Wagon 1: 100 points, 8 cargo blocks
- Wagon 2: 164 points, 11 cargo blocks
- Wagon 3: 236 points, 14 cargo blocks
- Wagon 4: 316 points, 17 cargo blocks
- Wagon 5: 404 points, 20 cargo blocks
- Wagon 10: 964 points, 30 cargo blocks
The cargo grows by 3 blocks per wagon until it reaches 30 on wagon 9, and stays there. It lands in random spots, mostly near the floor, and no row starts with more than 6 of its 8 cells filled. Points you score past a target still count for your total score, but they do not carry over to the next wagon's meter.
What carries over to the next wagon
- Your pieces: whatever is left in your tray rides along to the next wagon.
- Your combo: a chain of clears keeps counting on the new wagon.
- Not the board: every block on a full wagon leaves with it, and the new wagon starts with only its cargo.
That last point is the key to the mode. A messy board is not a disaster in Brain Express, because reaching the target replaces it. One warning: when the new wagon arrives, at least one of the pieces you carried over has to fit its cargo, or the run ends there.
Towns, records and rewards
Every 5 wagons your train reaches a new town, announced with NEXT STOP!. The line runs through Brainville, Neuron Heights, Synapse City, Cortex Bay, Idea Springs, Logic Lake, Puzzle Peak, Genius Junction, Memory Mills and Mastermind Central. The line under the meter shows your wagon number, your best and the town you are heading to.
Brain Express keeps two records: your best score and your most wagons delivered. Pass your wagon record during a run and RECORD RUN! appears. At the end you get 3 coins for every wagon delivered plus 1 coin for every 250 points, and the Brain XP from the run counts toward this week's league.
Boosters and continues in Brain Express
When your pieces do not fit the cargo, the booster bar is your way out:
- New Pieces swaps your tray for three new pieces, the closest thing to a fresh deal.
- Hammer smashes one block, handy for a cargo block that sits in a nearly full row.
- Bomb blasts a 3x3 area, perfect for a heavy pile of cargo.
Boosters cannot be used while a wagon is moving. If you are out of one, you can buy it with coins or get it for a short video, up to two free boosters per game. When you run out of moves, you also get one continue per run: watch a video or use 15 coins for three new pieces that fit.
Brain Express tips to deliver more wagons
- Finish the cargo rows. Cargo piles up near the floor and no row starts more than 6 of 8 cells full, so the bottom rows are often cheap line clears.
- Chain combos. The combo multiplies every clear and carries over between wagons, so a steady rhythm of clears fills the meter fastest.
- Do not over-build near the target. When the meter is almost full, the board is about to leave anyway. Get over the line and save big setups for the next wagon.
- Keep room for tall pieces. A wagon is only 7 rows high, so a five-block vertical line or a 3x3 square needs space.
- Expect it to get tougher. As in Classic, the pieces are picked to fit early in a run, and that help fades as your total score passes 1,000 to 3,000 points. From wagon 9 on every wagon carries the full 30 cargo blocks, so keep a Bomb or New Pieces for the later wagons.
Brain Express plays offline like the rest of Block Brain, which is free to play with optional purchases and coming back to Google Play soon. Find out more on the Block Brain: Block Puzzle Game page.
