Everything outside the island levels in Lantern Isles: Word Puzzle: the Daily Challenge and its monthly trophies, the Word of the Day, the Daily Gift and Lumi's Jar, the weekly league and clubs, the monthly Lantern Pass and the four holiday events.
Besides the islands, Lantern Isles: Word Puzzle has a puzzle for every day, a league for every week, a pass for every month and four holiday events a year. Here is how each of them works and what it pays.

Daily Challenge
One puzzle a day, the same for everyone who plays in your language. The Daily button on the home screen shows today's date and opens the calendar. A solved day pays 25 coins, 2 village stars, 15 pass lanterns and 10 league points.
You can catch up on missed days of the current month, but not of earlier months. Solve every day of a month and you win that month's trophy and 500 coins. The trophies go into the Trophies tab of your Collection.
Word of the Day
Guess a common five-letter word in six tries. After each guess the letters turn green when they are in the right place, gold when they are in the word but somewhere else, and grey when they are not in the word. Every guess has to be a real word.
The word is the same for everyone in your language that day, and every language has its own. A correct guess pays 30 coins and 10 league points and grows your Word of the Day streak, and the Share button sends your result as coloured squares without giving the word away.
Daily Gift
The Daily Gift opens by itself on your first visit of the day:

Missing a day never resets the row; it simply goes on from where you left it.
Lumi's Jar
The jar fills with fireflies while you are away: one every 12 minutes, up to 30, so it is full after six hours. Fireflies you free on firefly levels go in too. Each firefly is worth 2 coins, 60 for a full jar, so emptying it twice a day is a good habit. With reminders on, the game can tell you when the jar is full; it sends at most one reminder a day.
Weekly League
The league runs from Monday to Sunday in a group of 30. You collect points as you play:

At the end of the week the top five move up a league and the bottom five move down. There are six leagues: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Emerald, Sapphire and Crystal. Coins by place:

With an internet connection your group is made of other players, and the game fills any empty places; offline, the league keeps running on your phone.
Clubs
The Club tab next to the league lets you join a club of players who play in your language, or found your own with a name and an emblem from the game's lists. Every word any member finds, in the grid or as a bonus word, adds a point to the club's weekly chest. The chest has five levels, and the higher the club takes it, the more it pays when you open last week's chest: from 60 coins for the first level to 1,000 for the fifth. Clubs need an internet connection.
Lantern Pass
A season lasts one calendar month and has 30 tiers of 60 lanterns each. You earn lanterns as you play:

Every tier has a free reward: coins, a bulb or a lightning. The premium pass, bought once per season, adds a second, bigger reward on every tier, with 150 coins on tiers 10, 20 and 30. Four levels, the Daily Challenge and ten bonus words a day give 75 lanterns, enough for all 30 tiers in under four weeks. Claim your rewards before the month ends, because a new season starts on the first of the month.

During an event the home screen, the map and Lumi wear the holiday look, and an Event button appears on the home screen. Levels pay event tokens: 1 per level, 3 per guardian and 2 per Daily Challenge. Tokens uncover the 12 tiles of a holiday postcard one by one, at 3 to 10 tokens a tile and 68 in all. The finished postcard pays 500 coins.

When does the Daily Challenge change?
At midnight on your phone's clock.
Can I play a Daily Challenge I missed?
Yes, any missed day of the current month. Days of earlier months can no longer be played.
How do I move up in the weekly league?
Finish in the top five of your group of 30. Every word, level and daily puzzle adds points, and the Daily Challenge and the Word of the Day are worth 10 each.
When is the next Lantern Isles event?
Pumpkin Night runs from October 15 to 31, then Christmas Lights from December 1 to January 6.
