Idle Ronin Rebirth and Guardians Guide: Tokens, Costs and Best Picks

The exact Rebirth Token formula of Idle Ronin with a table from stage 50 to 500, every bonus that raises it, Instant and Quick Rebirth, all 19 Guardians with their bonuses, summon and upgrade costs, which Guardians to take first and when to rebirth.

Rebirth is what keeps Idle Ronin: Cyber RPG going: you trade your run for Rebirth Tokens, and the tokens make every later run stronger, either as raw ATK or as Guardians. This guide gives the exact token formula, every Guardian with its costs, and a plan for when to rebirth.

We make Idle Ronin, so the formulas come straight from the game code. New to Rebirth? Start with our beginner's guide.

What Rebirth resets and what you keep

Rebirth unlocks at stage 50.

  • Reset: your stage, your gold, your unit levels, which go back to each unit's Base Level, and all skill points.
  • Kept: your units and their copies, Guardians, equipment, skins, diamonds, items and your best stage, which still sets the difficulty of dungeons and the Neon Tower.

Every Rebirth Token you hold adds +10% ATK to all units. Tokens you spend on Guardians stop counting for that, so each token is either ATK now or a Guardian for good.

How many Rebirth Tokens you get

The reward is worked out from the stage you are on when you rebirth:

  1. 5 tokens at stage 50, plus 1 for every 10 stages after that.
  2. Plus 1 for every 150 levels your units have in total.
  3. From stage 202, plus 1 for every 2 stages past 200.
  4. From stage 100, the sum is multiplied by 1.1, and by another 1.1 every 25 stages after that.
  5. Last, your token bonuses are added, as described below.

Before bonuses, that gives:

StageTokensWith 1,800 unit levels in total
50517
75719
1001124
1251429
1501935
2003251
25097120
300188216
400483524
5001,0101,071

The curve bends sharply upward after stage 200: a run that ends at stage 300 pays almost six times as much as one that ends at 200. Each stage you add late in a run is worth more than the one before, so push a run as far as it will go before you rebirth.

Token bonuses

These add together, and the total multiplies the reward:

  • Long Service passive (Bastion, Jaws, Colossus, Hauler): +10% per level, up to level 50.
  • Life Code passive (One): +12% per level.
  • Equipment: the of Ghosts suffix and the Support, Black Market and Quantum prefixes.
  • Valkyrie Guardian: +10% per level, up to level 150, or 999 after Phase 2.
  • Double Rebirth Token, 800 diamonds in BOOSTS & PACKS: +100% for good.

Unit passives only count while the unit is one of your six active units, so swap your Long Service units and One into the team before you open the Rebirth window. The window lists every bonus before you confirm.

Instant Rebirth, tickets and Quick Rebirth

  • INSTANT REBIRTH pays the full token reward for 150 diamonds without resetting anything: your stage, gold and unit levels stay. It counts as a Rebirth, for the item shop too.
  • An Instant Rebirth Ticket, a Cyber Christmas reward, does the same for free.
  • Tap the title of the Rebirth window for a hidden Quick Rebirth: a normal Rebirth without the long yellow flash.

Late in a long run, Instant Rebirth is one of the best uses of diamonds: at stage 300 it pays 188 tokens or more, worth +1,880% ATK, for 150 diamonds.

Fast Forward and Base Levels

Two things soften the reset:

  • The Ghost Unit's Fast Forward passive starts your next run at stage 10, plus 5 per extra skill level, but never past half your best stage. The Ghost Unit has to be in your active team when you rebirth.
  • Units fall back to their Base Level, not to level 1. A Nano Capsule adds 5 Base Levels to one unit and a Rebirth Catalyst adds 1 to every unit; both are sold in the item shop.

All 19 Guardians

Guardians are bought with Rebirth Tokens and stay through every Rebirth. Their bonuses always apply.

Valkyrie+10% Rebirth Tokens150
Virtue-1% Guardian summon cost50

Once you own all 19 and every one is at its max level, a PHASE 2 key appears. It raises the cap of Bhaal, Plutus, Greedalor, Ares, Cupid, Artemis, Atlas, Aurum, Valkyrie, Foreman and Luna to level 999.

What Guardians cost

  • Summon: the first Guardian costs 1 token, and every one after that costs twice as much as the last: 2, 4, 8 and so on, up to 262,144 tokens for the 19th. You choose 1 of 3 random Guardians you do not own yet.
  • Virtue takes 1% off every summon per level, up to 50% at level 50.
  • Upgrade: raising a Guardian from level n to n + 1 costs n + 1 tokens, so level 10 costs 54 tokens in all and level 50 costs 1,274.
  • Shade, Twin Core, Chrono and Virtue cost the square instead, (n + 1) x (n + 1): 384 tokens in all for level 10 and 42,924 for level 50.
  • Past level 255, every price is multiplied again.

Which Guardians to take first

Summons double in price, so the order matters. When one of these is offered, take it:

  1. The Guardian of your main set. Ares, Cupid, Artemis, Atlas, Foreman or Luna adds +100% ATK per level to the whole set, at only n + 1 tokens a level. Nothing else you can buy with tokens comes close for the units in that set.
  2. Chrono and Nergal for boss walls: up to +50 seconds on the boss timer and up to -50% boss health.
  3. Valkyrie, which grows every later token reward by 10% per level.
  4. Virtue, if you plan to collect them all: at level 50 it halves every summon.

Shade adds up to +100% attack speed, Bhaal and Twin Core help crits, Plutus, Aurum, Lucky Node and Greedalor bring gold, and Hermes stops at -30% skill cooldown. Our squad guide explains which set to build around.

When to rebirth

  1. First Rebirth at stage 50. It opens Guardians and pays 5 tokens, enough for your first summon and a level.
  2. Second Rebirth soon after. Two Rebirths open the item shop.
  3. Then rebirth when a boss stops you for good. Before you do, swap Long Service units and One into the team, spend your dungeon keys and climb the Neon Tower: their difficulty follows your best stage, so they are easiest at the end of a run.
  4. End long runs with an Instant Rebirth if you have the diamonds: it doubles the run's payout without the reset.

Rebirth FAQ

How many Rebirth Tokens do I get at stage 100?

11, plus 1 for every 150 unit levels in total, before your bonuses.

Should I keep tokens or spend them on Guardians?

Spend them on the Guardian of your main set first: after a few levels, +100% ATK per level for that set is worth far more than the +10% per token you give up. Keep the rest as ATK until a strong Guardian is offered.

What does Instant Rebirth do?

It pays the token reward for your current stage, for 150 diamonds or a ticket, without resetting anything.

Do Guardians reset on Rebirth?

No. Guardians, their levels and the tokens you spent on them stay for good.
